Worldwide famous Pamukkale is going to attract even more tourist as the Roman “gate to hell,” believed to be a passage into the underworld, will open to visitors in September. This news is important for the travel world as Pamukkale is one of the Unesco sights and its Cotton Castle and Hierapolis ancient city are one of the most ‘wanted’ sights. The modern excavation and restoration experts working on the Plutonnium Gate referred to as the ancient ‘Gate to Hell’ have announced the opening for September.
In fact, an Italian archeological team, headed by Prof. Francesco D’Andria, unearthed Plutonium in 2013, and the area is set to open to visitors in September as restoration works have been completed, according to local officials. A statue of Hades and of Cerberus, which is known as the “hound of Hades,” will be put at the gate’s entrance.
Pamukkale Hierapolis’s necropolis (cemetery) extends for several kilometres, viewing sarcophagi, of which the most famous is Marcus Aurelius Ammianos, tombs and grave monuments, it became the biggest ancient necropolis in Turkey. In September this new object is going to be open to public, and travel agencies will be making a difficult decision whether to include it or not in their itineraries.
