From Rescue to Recovery: Marmaris Response to Earthquakes
This is the first article since the devastating earthquakes in Turkey. We have witnessed incredible efforts to provide emergency response from the entire world and we are thankful for all the aid, thoughts and prayers.
The province of Muğla is in the top 10 provinces where the earthquake victims are taking refuge. According to the latest figures there are 40 300 earthquake victims in Muğla province.
In an effort to give back and provide the necessary support, a number of hotels, apartments, bungalows and villas in Marmaris, Icmeler, Turunc, Selimiye, Bozburun are providing free accommodation to the earthquake victims. Most of these hotels were closed for the winter but have re-opened to provide shelter to those who need it most in this difficult time. Here are the good Samaritans in Marmaris – the hotels that have opened their doors to help those who lost homes in recent earthquakes in Turkey:
Assistance for housing is provided by social campaigns, including Evim Yuvan Olsun! and Bir Kira Bir Yuva – Bir Kira Bir Yuva
On ‘Evim Yuvan Olsun’ anyone who owns a holiday home, or a second home can open it up to the earthquake victims,
On ‘Bir Kira Bir Yuva’ anyone who owns a holiday home or a second home can accommodate earthquake victims and also donate towards the rent expenses of those who need it.
The school year has been delayed and began on Monday February 20 2023, except for the provinces affected by earthquake. The universities in Turkey remain to be closed.
