Is Eid a national holiday in Turkey?

The Eid does not have a fixed date in the calendar and falls on different days each year.

This year the Sacrifice Feast known as Kurban Bayramı in Turkey will be celebrated from the 29th June until the 2nd July 2022.

Marmaris and other resorts in Turkey are ready to welcome local visitors and holidaymakers.

Kurban Bayramı has a number of traditions with the main one being a sacrifice. It is the festival of sacrifice where people sacrifice an animal to commemorate the Islamic prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to God. Animals such as cows, goats and sheep are sacrificed. Once sacrificed, the meat is shared out, part of the meat is given to the poor, while other part is kept for the family, friends and neighbours.

This time in Turkey is similar to any religious holidays in the world and in Europe. People put their best clothes and jewellery, visit each other to exchange festival greetings, drink Turkish coffee and eat meals and desserts. Kids run around to collect sweets, chocolate and pocket money that are willingly shared by the people in Turkey. New brides receive significant presents including money and golden jewellery from the in-laws and husbands. If you are in Marmaris, you will definitely witness this first hand and experience the good ambience of the community here. A number of hotels will be offering festive menus, meals and baklava dessert.
